[ Satsuki looks about as un-emotive as usual to the casual eye. For anyone who's been around her a bit longer, she almost seems happy. Relieved, more likely. Because, you see... ]

I have been offered the opportunity to continue on as a warden, which I have refused. As such I will be leaving this place. If anyone requires technological help before I leave, I seem to have regained full use of my powers.

[ That's right. She's graduated and ready to go, but completely willing to talk to your computers first. Any takers? ]

Many of you come from worlds that are strange to me. [ The broadcast begins quite suddenly from the infirmary. She’s only getting bandages, but she didn’t want to wait. Though she started a video, she doesn’t quite look at the screen but mostly at the keys underneath. Her expression is pensive. This is going somewhere, just be patient. ] Some have traveled to even more. I have a question for you.

If you wanted to start a new life, someplace pleasant, a place where one wouldn’t have to hide special abilities to be treated as more than a commodity, where would you suggest?

[ Yes, lo and behold, Satsuki has begun to think of a life after the barge, a life after death. ]

Given the choice, would you prefer to face the evil you know, or make your way in an unfamiliar place?

[ She had thought that killing her father had been some horrible mistake. But he was alive, in that other life, and the only thing that changed was her attitude. Perhaps it wasn't a mistake. Perhaps her father was the one who was mistaken. But she learned from the experience, important things that she will remember and contemplate.

For example: Positive relationships might help her graduate? Her speech is slow and forced, almost scripted. ]

For the record, I am perfectly capable of acting like a 'normal' person. I wasn't totally cut off from human society. I find it boring. Tiresome. Predictable. People follow the same patterns day after day. In a predictable way they make a mess of things. They hurt each other, and themselves, and the world they live in. It's frustrating. Sad.

I have never enjoyed the company of another human being. [ There was one. She watched him die. She could have helped.

Her speech pattern returns to normal once her speech is done with. ]

I am curious. What do you believe is necessary for graduation?

[ Is it talking to people, because she really hates talking to people. ]

[ Satsuki is affected. The most noticeable difference is the somewhat dour look on her face, one which seems permanently etched into her features. Her father was a source of great irritation growing up.

But now he's dead. So it doesn't matter. ]

Another flood. What is it going to be this time? No one seems to have been turned into a plant. [ Stupid ridiculous floods making nonsense happen all the time. ] Half of you wouldn't even notice if they did. You never see what's right under your nose. You're all too involved with your own problems.

I already knew the human race was a pathetic waste of space. Now I know it's a universal constant. [ She scoffs. ] And people wonder why I helped end it.

[ Satsuki's voice is as level and monotone as it always is. Faintly in the background a hamster can be heard hard at work at his wheel, a sign that this post comes from Satsuki's own room. ]

I will no longer be working in the infirmary. [ Not a request, merely a fact that warrants no protest. ] It has not proven conducive to my graduation as Angua may have hoped. I do not wish to be assigned elsewhere.

[ And without a warden, no one can force her. Besides, she's reasonably sure the only available job she would be trusted with is in the kitchen, and that would just be insulting. ]

[ Satsuki awoke intending to address the barge in regards to the return of her powers. She sits on her cold, bare bed and opens her mouth to speak.

What comes out is music. As she sings, she becomes more expressive than most people will have ever seen her. The loneliness of it all is plain on her face. Without her powers she is cut off from the beings she considers her friends, but who have betrayed her in the past. She is conflicted. ]

[ Satsuki chooses to stick to audio. She has never been one to care much about her looks, but she is reasonably sure that she looks like a disaster victim at the moment, and the barge doesn't need more of those running around on the network. Her voice is perhaps a touch dryer than usual. This is not her first death on the barge. ]

It is perhaps an underrated motivator towards graduation that it might significantly decrease the number of times one is killed. This would necessarily be true of any individual whose life ends when they die. I would be glad to be such an individual again.

[ Glad. Now there's a thought. She wonders if Rinzler's offer to let her stay on the Grid still stands with him gone. There's a moment of silence. ]

I would like to be moved back to my room, please, so that I may continue to care for my hamster. I have no warden to do so for me.

Ah, hello again! [ The man smiling from Satsuki’s communicator seems to be in exceptionally good spirits, considering the circumstances. But then, he always seems in exceptionally good spirits so this isn’t anything new. And he pulls off the white suit really well, too. ]

Based on the hamster I would guess that Miss Satsuki has made quite a bit of progress in her time here. I’m glad. But I’m afraid, Miss Satsuki, that keeping a tamagotchi alive in the few days I’ll be here is a bit beyond my skills. I hope you won’t hold it against me! [ He laughs, knowing just how silly that sounds, and also that Satsuki likely will hold it against him. A tamagotchi is a computer, isn’t it? ]

To those of you I haven’t met yet, I am Yuuto Kigai, an ordinary civil servant. I hope you’ll be patient with me while I’m here!

[ Satsuki speaks with all the bland monotone that she always has. Despite her words she sounds incredibly calm, and this is perhaps your first best sign that Satsuki is quite affected by the flood. ]

I believe I have made a horrible mistake in my youth. Although I had previously wanted to be left in eternal peace now I irrationally wish to suffer. I began this transmission with the desire of conducting a moral discussion on the value of family and the nature of guilt, but I have decided instead to make a thinly veiled plea for help and will proceed to hide in my room and lock the door.

[ The feed continues in silence for a good minute. Maybe even two. ]

I am not certain if I wish to be alone or if I truly wish for someone to come find me. I find this curious.

[ Satsuki is not wearing her sweater. Satsuki is wearing the same boring clothes she always wears.

She is, however, affected by the holiday spirit. And so although there isn’t much visual difference, this entire post is a bit odd. ]

I have not celebrated holidays of any kind since I was a young child. I would like to. Any assistance would be appreciated.

There seems to be a large divide between those who enjoyed port and those who did not. I am curious as to how such an escape was possible and for what reason that particular world was chosen. [ She hated it, okay, and she thinks you’re all jerks for enjoying it. ]

I am of the understanding that we are once more experiencing interference on the network from other worlds. [ She wants to ask if Yuuto is out there, if there’s anyone who wants particularly to speak to her. But she can’t find the words, and instead she shuts off the feed. ]

I have been instructed to make conversation with the bar patrons, but they do not make for interesting conversation.

[ Anyone who has been to the bar and spoken to Satsuki? She thinks you’re boring. And stupid. ]

I would like to extend an invitation to talk to the uninebriated residents of the barge.

Additionally, might it be possible for me to take a bike into the CES? I have never been, and I would appreciate a change in scenery.

[ Satsuki stares blankly out at the camera. More blankly than usual, that is. ]

When a pet dies, I believe it is traditional to pay them some manner of respects. The specifics and the extent to which one goes to honor a deceased companion vary from culture to culture and person to person.

[ She pauses, because it's rather difficult for her to ask anyone for advice, but she's almost getting used to using the other bargians as a source of information when the library fails her. ]

I would like to know... what the other residents of the barge would do, to mark the passing of a pet.

[ Private to Angua ]

Haruki is dead.

[ How does she emotions. Also how does she play with kids games. And why can't she get the reset button to push, what does she need a pen or something that's so ridiculous what is even the use. ]

[ Satsuki starts speaking out of the blue, with no video, from what appears to be a script. Looking at the paper itself it looks more like a whole bunch of numbres, but this is how she reads them (apart from clinically): ]

The average length of floods disregarding any significant outliers is 2 days, with a significance of 0.01. Although there is not enough data to predict the length of time between extended floods, it has been found that floods are longer than 2 days approximately 20.8% of the time.

55.6% of floods had physical effects. Of these, 46.7% resulted in a complete transformation into another body. 14.8% of floods result in a change in age. 44.4% involved some mental change or verbal effect.

There is not a strong correlation in the length of time between floods. However, statistically speaking, floods will occur on the second week of the month with a significance of 0.01. A second flood will occur before the end of the month with a significance of 0.5.

Breaches have been found to last 3-4 days. Little can be determined from the data available.

[ There is a pause. ]

That is all.

[ Satsuki looks worried. Which is strange, because usually she doesn't look like she's feeling anything at all. But today her eyebrows are furrowed and she's frowning. Visibly. ]

I haven't finished with my calculations yet, but according to the information I have so far, if nobody has changed physically and people aren't saying things without meaning to, the flood is most likely affecting us mentally. If we haven't noticed, it's probably because something's been changed so that we wouldn't. I don't know if that helps, but I just thought everyone should know. In case you were worried or anything. We probably won't find anything out until the end of the flood. So we should just relax. [ She smiles slightly, as though this is really a comforting thought. ]

I wish I could tell you more, because I hate not knowing all of the details, but it's an awful lot of math and all I have to work with is these textbooks and what I can work out in my head. I'm used to having the answers at the tip of my fingers, and all I had to do is ask. But there's nobody to ask here, and even if there was, I'm not sure they would answer me. In that port I tried to talk to the computers, but they wouldn't say anything. It was really unsettling. I didn't like it. I'm almost afraid to try again. It's like they don't like me anymore. [ She sort of pouts. ]

It's sad. I don't have anyone else to talk to. I don't like being dead. It's just so frustrating, and I feel like I don't know anything anymore. According to mythology, if there's an afterlife you're supposed to know everything when you die. It's just not fair.

[ Satsuki has taken quite a bit of time to write this out, doing her best to sound polite and considerate. As these are two things that do not come naturally to her, it is in written form. ]

I would like to request whatever information regarding floods, breaches and ports as the population of the barge is willing to provide. Of particular interest is the dates on which these events occured, how much of the population was effected, and a general summary of the effects. Personal information will be kept confidential.

I would like to perform a statistical analysis in the interest of predicting the dates and severity of future such events. My findings will be shared with the general public. Any help would be appreciated and respected.

Thank you.
